From the end of May until the first week in September the Ucluelet Salmon Fishing Derby will be held, offering a $40,000 cash prize to the winner. Last year’s winner was a 39 lb. 7 oz. Chinook caught by Bonnie Broughton of Moses Lake, Washington.
In 2008/2009 my clients netted 12 fish over 40 pounds, and had the Derby been a season long affair as it is this year, any of them could realistically have won the tournament.
